Spatial Abilities through Educational Robotics

In colaboration with Òscar Antolí.

This research line studies the potential of educational robotics for the teaching and learning process of mathematics. More concretely, in its first stage, we study how robotics allow the promotion of spatial abilities.

We performed an 8 session course with sixth grade primary students, and it was shown that the spatial abilities of the assistants improved with respect to students that didn't attend the course.

Currently, Óscar Antolí teaches a specific course on robotics during the 2015-2016 at primary education (sixth grade students) and secondary education (first grade students), both in the same institution. The course is called “STEM Workshop”, and the objective is to promote STEM among students. Once the course has finished, we will study once again if the spatial abilities of the assistants has improved. We will also study if the mechanical reasoning of the assistants has improved, and if STEM have been promoted in general.
